My dear friend, Shaily Giraffes, visited the giraffes in South Africa during Spring Break 2k17 and was kind enough to allow me to share her experience with you all! Her sister took these (amazing!!!) photos at Kruger National Park, near South Africa's Mozambique border.
There is only one type of giraffe in South Africa. (I think you can guess which one.) Male South African giraffes are darker than females. In a few pictures, a male giraffe is sniffing the female giraffe to see if she is in estrus (a recurring period of sexual receptivity and fertility in female mammals) to determine whether she is ready to mate or not.
